To Make More Money, Start with Contentment
You gaze into your wardrobe to make the choice of what to put on that will make you feel strong and confident and project that air that gains other’s respect, and everything you see just feels so lackluster and boring, dated, worn. You want that new crisp and flattering design, if only you had more money. In fact, if you had more money, you would have nicer hangers to organize your plentiful options, more luxurious carpet beneath your feet, a more statuesque home with a longer drive, and a more elegant car to carry you to and from your prestigious job where you are esteemed and promoted, and you were able to share those ideas and write that book and …you’re so far into the daydream that you hadn’t noticed it, until the dream screeches to a stop as you snap back to reality with the haunting emptiness…if only you had more money.
We give money so much power in our life, and it’s because we don’t understand it or know how to create it.
If the world is a limited place of limited resources, then your position in it is to hoard, guard, and defend what you have, take what you don’t yet have, or be disillusioned and resentful of others who have it, or to try to comfort yourself with a resigned well it wasn’t about the money anyway dismissal of the desire.
If, however, the world is unlimited because of endless love, gifts, abilities, opportunities, and potential for creation, then your position in it is to give, create, bless, and expand the whole world around you.
1 Timothy 6: 6 says that godliness with contentment is great gain, and is itself great wealth! And it’s absolutely true.
It’s the contentment, satisfaction, and fulfillment of knowing there’s more than enough, and you have everything you need where the tide turns.
Because it’s in fact not that money creates peace of mind and confidence and freedom, but that peace of mind and confidence and freedom create more money.
On the brink of the decision, it may seem like the ideal way to motivate yourself to create a better life is to be frustrated with your present situation, enough to force your way out of it.
But ironically, being more accepting and satisfied allows you to do more, because you are creating results and money out of your love, not out of your neediness.
It’s the place of fulfillment, gratitude for what you have, and peace about your present circumstance that allows you to create and produce more, because you know your value, and why you are here, and the impact that you were created to have on the world.
In order to do this, you have to believe in your worth, intrinsically. Not because of what you have, but regardless of it.
Your identity is in who you are, not what you have. And your purpose isn’t to acquire more things to take the sting out of life, it’s to elevate humanity. Knowing that you are rich just because of who you are, isn’t the stopping place, it’s the starting place to creating a life of true riches, meaning, purpose, and value…and that, my friends, includes money.
Money doesn’t produce or create anything, it goes along with a life lived in abundance. It’s a natural result, because it’s flowing into your life as you give value, and it’s flowing back out of your life as you receive value. Like breathing, you can’t live without oxygen, and you can’t exhale without inhaling…so you will not be always giving without ever receiving, because when you get curious about what the world needs and you make it your mission to deliver the value, the world will compensate you for the good that you have produced in it.
God placed a dream in your heart, and it’s time to own it. As you take ownership and responsibility for creating something amazing in the world, you stop being a victim of your circumstances. You actively engage by showing up fully, instead of passively letting life happen to you. You develop and use your voice, rather than being an echo. You become a producer and a creator who makes the world bigger, braver, fuller, and more beautiful, instead of being a consumer of the creations of others. You become a learner who is always growing because your dream causes you to expand in order to create it. When you are satisfied and content, and you live from that place, you don’t need to medicate the results of complacency.
In abundance, you maximize the talents you have been given, instead of hiding or burying them. And you take full responsibility and stewardship of your life, because when you become a producer, you give out of who you are. And your desire to contribute more compels you to do the most with what you’ve been given.
You see, abundance isn’t just a state of mind. It always starts there, but it’s evidence will shine through into your material world. Abundance is the juice for conscious creation and profound service, from which money and true success are born.
