Money, Identity, and Walking in Abundance
What is money, and how does it relate to our identity? How do we see money from a place that is not greedy and grasping, but already satisfied?
We often have difficulty talking about money, because of the emotional baggage we feel about our failures and fears. We feel that if we just get enough money, we’ll outrun the insecurities, and prove that we’ve “arrived.”
But your money is like a window to your soul, magnifying your inner life – your character. Whatever is happening inside is what’s going to be produced on the outside. Your identity is not what can be seen and measured externally, it is your intrinsic and limitless worth and value.
Whenever we look at the financial status of ourselves or others as the mark of our value, we get a warped sense of identity that will lead to feeling like we are never enough. Going with the status quo of a society jockeying for rank and trying to measure up will have you disgusted with what you have and resentful of those with more. But loathing what we already have is to loath who we are. And attempts to escape your current lot that are motivated by fear and desperation cause you to repel the very thing you want.
When you operate from a position of internal abundance – knowing that you have everything you need and have intrinsic and limitless worth and value – this is the catalyst to living a life of purpose and fulfillment. When you understand your value, you are free to serve others with more value.
Abundance isn’t an external surplus of material possessions to give us identity and prove our worth, it’s a reflection of our internal character. Abundance starts inside, with the way you view yourself. Internal abundance creates external abundance. But external displays of wealth will not ever cause you to feel enough.
Stop working to build up an external display of wealth to prove your value, and contemplate the tremendous value you already are.
